NEWS, OR NOT

Wed 14 dec 2005 UPDATE 27 dec
The Crab Four will stay alive until the end of february and then we will split, probably sideways. In the meantime, some new concerts added... And a Dutch review of the EKKO concert. More accurate info on the Crab Four to be found on the Heldersite.

We're working on the follow-up album to "You kill me", some songs are totally recorded and done, others are doing us in. We started recording at the end of august and these last couple of weeks we're hitting a groove (not as in 'jazzysoulygroovyman' no worries). Seems like the working title is "=Tigerproof" (as in "sukilove = tigerproof"). Some songtitles : Blood and milk make holy, Moon, Beatlesnake, Snow. Not all will make it to the album, it's a cruel world.

Toon is vader geworden !

And yes, the Rarities album is still being worked on, albeit extremely slowly as we concentrate mainly on recording new stuff.

Underneath there's a very nice and sad poster for a sukilove concert that never was, made by Arabella Proffer. You can check out her website here.

Goeie line-up : Madensuyu, Waldorf en Sukilove.
Some sukilove songs have been used in a new Dutch movie called "CastingX", première next monday in Louis Hartloopercomplex in Utrecht.

Ah, mosquitos fall to the ground as summer dies and we sukilovers are gently burning underground in a Trix basement, quietly and not-so-quietly recording the follow-up to "You Kill me". Basically we've demo-ed/recorded 7 new basic tracks, some of which will probably get to the finishline. Once in a blue moon (read : once every year) you get an uncracked egg straight from the Lord, no sweat, just right in the pocket ; this one is provisionally called "Moon", from start to finish in about an hour. (The compilation album is still in the pipeline.)

Gracelicious is trying hard to beat Soundsbrown to a pulp in speed-releasing new pictures on the internet : a couple of hours after our Teutrock show, our mugs are already on display. There's lots more sukilove footage on Gracelicious by the way (including yesterday's "I love Camera" show). Double-click on the chosen pic for a larger format.
The first week rehearsing/recording new material has gone well. Some songs are shaping up nicely & we already debuted a new one at Teutrock today, called "Mama". Except for a total foray into 70's space rock (mainly Tim going Moog Mental), we don't know which "musical direction" the album will take. Roughly translated, we haven't got a clue as to what we're doing... We tried some funk in waltz time and strangely enough, that worked. Next week we're gonna have a castrated donkey do the lead vocals. ("As if anyone will spot the difference" - I heard ya).

Next week we'll start working on the new album. We've built our own little studio in TRIX and we'll be writing & recording the whole year through, probably even well into next year. Releaseperiod for the new album : summer 2006. (The limited edition album will come through after this summer, see 30 may for more details).
Upcoming concerts : 14 aug Teutrock in Zonhoven & 20 aug Maanrock in Mechelen

Have a great summer !

Of what the hell : klik hier.

Mon 30 may 2005 (updated mon 6 june)
A collaboration with Styrofoam is on-line : a cover version of Tim Hardin's "Hang on to a dream". Click here to go to the Styrofoam MySpace page.
We've got a brand new page up @ MySpace.com (thanx to Styrofoam) ! Come and be friendly !
Later this week we'll put up the new single "Tiresome blues" (and the Dr. Trix remix of it ) in the audiostreamer at the bottom of this page. Oh and the cover of Lydia Lunch's "Atomic Bongos" (taken from the StuBru radiosession 2 weeks ago) also. Lyric, check.
This is pretty much the quickest sukilove song to escape the studio : written three weeks ago, recorded 10 days ago, mixed this week - out there next Tuesday.
The end of the summer will see the release of a limited edition album (the "Pink water EP" never made it) including a lot of unreleased songs from the past couple of years. Some very probable candidates : "You're a stranger in my head", "Babe why ?", "Asshole", "The Left Side", "Taste of sin" and some more.
New "You kill me" reviews (!?) : Music Minded (Dutch) & Id Dream (English).

Mon 16 may 2005 Nieuwe single "Tiresome blues" !
Brussel Vlaams zond gisteren een reportage uit over "sukilove in TRIX" met interviews vd sukilovers + live fragmenten uit "You kill me", "Woe", "Jesus Cried", "Atomic Bongos" en de gloednieuwe song aka zomerhit "Tiresome blues". Release richting radio : 1ste week van juni. Je kan de radiouitzending hier herbeluisteren.

We will have a "Open Studio" day, May the 11th. Visitors can come and take a look at us recording and playing some old, new and obscure songs @ Trix, Antwerp. People who bring their instruments can probably even sit in on the recordings and play along ! Check the Trix site or listen to StuBru for invitations.
Last thursday at Herman Teirlick went well. Except for the piano. Take a look at Soundsbrown for more photos and info.

Thu 21 april 2005
Tonight we were normally going to appear with the Sukilove Micro Orchestra at the Herman Teirlinck benefiet but due to a small technical problem in Stoffel's neck (probably a "knelled zenuw") he can't play the drums. His only ability left for the moment is looking very sad whilst playing Playstation.
So we'll do a very new combo : Mauro, Dave and me. Guitar, drums, moog and some attitude. CU there, starts at 19h, I think we play around 20h.

Tue 12 april 2005
We'll be supporting legendary punk-funk godfathers Gang of Four @ Hof ter Lo this sunday. Unfortunately Tim won't be able to make the gig due to Bal des Boiteux obligations but former sukilove-basshero Pieter van Buyten will fill the void and the silence.
Guess which sukilove track !
We had a particularly chaotic but enjoyable rehearsal today. We continued working on a frenetic acoustic speeder, working title :"Blood and milk makes holy". With less than 45 minutes to go before the end of the rehearsal, we also threw together a new song. Still embryonic but there was some spark there, might come together.
'The Crab Four' are alive !

Taken from the Parasol website blog, march 30, entry by Michael Roux : "Sukilove Tour pt. 4 Whew! Yesterday I finally heard from the Department of Homeland Security regarding my non-immigrant worker petition to get Sukilove in the country for a tour. My response, which includes additional documentation, "must be received in this office by June 14, 2005." I'm not going to rush it because the tour was scheduled for March 10th-March 20th and has since been scrapped. "

Happy birthday dad !

Sun 6 march 2005 An unfortunate series of events...(updated : 11 march)
Parasol sent us a new UK bloglink - click here for Spoilt Victorian Child. Apology gladly accepted by the way...
Last couple of weeks have been unkind to Sukilove : despite having a great tour in the US set-up for us by Parasol's headhoncho Michael Roux (12 dates in 14 days, starting the 10th of March in the Knitting Factory in NYC), the US government decided to check-mate us by not being able to deliver the working visas on time. Several people developed major sweat, trying to get this tour together, working hard to fill in and deliver a truckload of documents -enough paperwork to even have made the clerks in Brazil blush- but to no avail : the visas would not arrive on time and the tour had to be cancelled. You can read a more detailed account on this Parasol blog (entries march 1 & 3).
On the better side, a good review on Mundane Sounds.
We started work in the newly built Sukilove studio this week. Those nice folks at TRIX (Antwerpen) donated a cosy little room until early next year where we can bottle new suki-brews. We've been recording a couple of new tunes, some of them called "Beatlesnake", "Before and after a smog" and "Snow" probably to be released on a VERY limited CD ("Pink Water EP") shortly. We'll probably only print 20 copies of the EP -at the most- and donate them to whomever we fancy, just because we can, us miserable bast*rds.
We also have this leftover song from the "You kill me" sessions called "You're a stranger in my head" which just didn't fit on the album. We could put it on the EP but maybe we should give the track to Duyster...what to do, what to do.

To be continued...

Mon 31 jan 2005 (updated 1 feb)
We just came in from doing some plugging at Studio Brussel & Pure FM. We friendly-kamikazed Lieve de Mayer's "Music @ Work" program and did a
freshly conceived "1234" rockabilly version. You can listen to it and watch it all here.
The special concert with Boenox & Sukilove together @ De Nachten is being streamed on Mine.be : "Steal your love away" awaits yer ears.

Tue 4 jan 2005 "HAPPY NEW YAER !"
There are some decent live-mp3's on-line from the Effenaar concert, recorded by our indecent soundengineer Coeckie aka "El Biscuitos". Click here for a selection of 5 songs. Matching pictures of that gig can be found on Soundsbrown.com on this page.
We had to re-locate the English guestbook because of technical stuv, you can find it here from now on.
